That's right, the Felix who just regaled us with yummy snapshots at Cadillac Corner in the Valley. Sigh. I've been remiss in mentioning my love for old cars here at mitten d. and I suppose it's time I do something about that.
I won't beat around the bush...if I win the lottery, I will make it a point to own many cars. The collection will initially be comprised of the cars that were in my family, the ones that meant the most. The first car to have made a lasting impression on me was a 1955 Buick Century Convertible.
My grandfather's car. It was black & white and had a red interior (and FOUR Ventiports/Portholes!) . I recall sliding across the smooth leather seat. I also recall the horrible reoccurring nightmare I had for years that took place in THAT Buick.
Honey, I wish I could buy you every one of those cars. I loved all our family cars as well. I understand all to well.
ReplyDeleteMy great grandmother, Memmy, had a 1955 Buick Special four-door hardtop. All black, with a RED interior. When she died my Grandfather took it on and kept it until he traded it in on an ice blue Pontiac Catalina sedan.
ReplyDeleteI was fascinated by the Buick's size, the chrome and the massive tail lights (the weight of which would surly be enough to tip a modern car's front end upwards).
The Buick had a Dynaflow transmission - the acceleration was slow but smooth as glass.
I want one, and they really aren't that pricey in today's market. 1955 was the first year that Buick sales rose to #3 behind Chevy and Ford.
Always did say if I were rich the garage would be much bigger than the house!
ReplyDeleteThat car is so fabulous! Geez, the only car my grandmother had was a Chevy Impala. My grandfather didn't even drive. Although my other grandfather did have a Galaxie 500, which is pretty cool.
