Our Rin Tin Tin
Felix, you know, the one in Hollywood, did a lovely post about the most famous german shepherd and how he saved Warner Brothers. Because my father had grown up watching those studio saving movies, we ended up with a wonderful puppy we named Mina. She was also called Oood Eames. Don't ask. She was the sweetest dog...and strange. All she ever wanted to do was chew on rocks and I mean ROCKS. Our kitchen had one of those wrought iron/corner bench kitchen sets and Mina's place was under it and there was always a pile of rocks that she would haul in from outside. It still haunts me that back then, people didn't chain their dogs up or keep them in, they just ran loose. One day, we got a call at the store from a neighbor and we flew home to find our poor baby dead in the driveway. She'd been hit by a truck. Strangely, she'd had a problem with kidney stones and had a few operations to remove them. I have one of those stones. It's the size of a small egg.
Sad animal stories make Mistress MJ cry.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a dog that collects rocks. That part is a sweet memory.
ReplyDeleteShe looks exactly like my dog, Lee, that I had as a child.
Poor pretty Mina.
ReplyDeleteWe used to let our dogs roam the neighborhood too and I have a similar sad story.
Fortunately Shag the English Sheepdog had the sense to lounge about the yard and not chase cars. He preferred to ride in the back of the station wagon with all of us kids hanging out...Just like in a Doris Day movie.
Oooh, she's an absolute beauty!
