WHY DOES RUSSIA HAVE A MICROPHONE?

1.PUTIN.

2. CONDUCTOR VASILY PETRENKO SAYS OF MARIN ALSOP WHO WAS THE FIRST WOMAN TO CONDUCT THE FINAL NIGHT OF THE BBC PROMS, "WOMEN ARE A DISTRACTION AND THAT A CUTE GIRL ON A PODIUM MEANS THAT MUSICIANS THINK ABOUT OTHER THINGS."

3. RUSSIA'S FEDERAL SERVICE FOR SUPERVISION OF COMMUNICATIONS, IT & MASS MEDIA ANNOUNCED ON 9/12 THAT IT HAD WARNED THE EVROKINO TV CHANNEL FOR AIRING THE 2007 FRENCH MUSICAL, "LES CHANSONS D'AMOUR" (LOVE SONGS). THE AGENCY SAID THE FILM CONTAINS "PROPAGANDA OF NONTRADITIONAL SEXUAL RELATIONS."

4. ALL THE HATEFUL CRAP THAT'S BEEN EMANATING OUT OF RUSSIA THIS YEAR.

5. I'M DONE WITH RUSSIA.

  1. I'm not going to watch the olympics this year.

It is kind of understandable that the world events were hidden behind the iron curtain to Russia for almost a century. No excuse but they need to catch up.

  2. Russia is becoming a reprehensibly fascist state.

I've signed every petition going, and joined the protest outside Downing Street. Cameron and Obama have said they will try and raise the issue of human rights and homophobia - but will Putin listen? I doubt it.

It's down to the Olympics sponsors and participants to make a statement. Let's hope, with the world's cameras upon them, there are some spirited and seditious moments. I am not holding my breath, though.

  3. Putin is a Communist Party Member who wants to get that party started again. He built his early career imtimidating and bully people around. I'm with MDP, to Hell with the Olympics. And the means that I won't get to watch my beloved curling matches.

    1. No, Cookie, I think that is not correct. Putin does not need another ineffective Party. He is a product of the KGB through and through, and the old elite is working together - it's all a bit like Germany in the fifties. But there is no way back and he knows. It is all ahead, and that means power for the sake of power, and national interest. After 1989 and the implosion of the SU we have what we had at the start of the 20th century.
Putin himself gives a shit whether a person is homo-, hetero-, bi- or transsexual, as long as the person is loyal to the system Putin. So all this homophobic crap - whom is he caressing with that? The (not so) new right that is organizing itself through the whole of Eastern Europe. Look at Hungary and vomit. Look at parts of the Polish society, parts of Tschechien and greet the friendly dictator of White Russia - and above them all the "flawless democrat" (former German chancellor Schröder, sic!) Putin.
I think Jon's sentence above is not correct: Russia is not becoming a reprehensibly (?) fascist state - it already is one; and papers, actions whatever is simply in vain. As Stalin said: "How many divisions has the Pope?", so goes Putin: Does the homosexual community possess a tank? Whether we look at these games or not - makes absolutely no difference.
I do not particularly like to watch sports, so I will surely not look at it. But I will look at the official start and that just to see whether they allow themselves to be inspired by Leni Riefenstahl ... maybe I should look at Fest der Schönheit and Triumph des Willens again.
