It may be possible to retrieve files from the hard disc. Seek professional help.

  3. Oh dear, I was wondering dear. I have been there and can feel your pain. NEVER try to adjust your pearls and sip a cocktail at the same time over the laptop. Just a hint.

  4. Oh, shit. It has happened to us, and I sympathise. Back up everything sweetie! [And LX is right - hard discs can be recovered - if at a rather hefty price, which is why we haven't done it yet...]

  5. My, that's a nice little broche you have there, sweetie. Did you pin it on your third nipple? And I'm sure I have an old picture of my grandmother wearing almost the same hat except it was green. Now what was that you were talking about... some blender that crushed...

  6. I sympathize...tsk. It's happened to me more than once (one day I'll back everything up, I promise!). Sadly, there's the helpful NSA service which surely has a copy of all your files. Bastards...

  10. But you still have your handbag, your fichus looks healthy, and I'm sure those curtains match your carpet. Really things aren't so bad.

    Onward!

  11. So sorry for your loss. I have what resembles a Frankenputer on my desk. Cobbled bits and pieces from 4 deceased or diseased computers. You can take the hard drive and connect it as a slave drive to another computer and try to salvage info that way. Just a thought. BTW Microsoft sent me a lovely message that they will no longer support XP and that I should buy a new computer because without support it will whither and die and things will only get worse. I got a Macbook in anticipation of the untimely death of my beloved old friend.
