YES, NORMA'S ANOTHER YEAR OLDER AND IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING, SHE FEELS EVERY FUCKING DAY, EVERY FUCKING MOMENT OLDER.
BUZZR AIRS A FASCINATING RELIC ON SATURDAY MORNINGS.
THE ORIGINAL EVENING VERSION OF THE PRICE IS RIGHT (FROM 1959-60ish) IS AN AMAZING GLIMPSE INTO YESTERDAY. ON TODAY'S AIRING THEY JUST GAVE AWAY A VERY COOL KITCHEN. WASHER/DRYER, RANGE, OVEN, DISHWASHER & REFRIGERATOR ALL BUILT INTO CUSTOM CABINETS. THE ENTIRE WALL OF GOODIES WAS VALUED AT A BIT OVER $3000.00.
ALL THE CONTESTANTS HAD TO DO WAS CORRECTLY GUESS THE PRICE OF AN ELECTRIC CAN OPENER.
THE CORRECT PRICE OF THE OPENER WAS APPROXIMATELY $30.00(!) WHICH SEEMED CRAZY. AFTER CHECKING, I FOUND THAT $30.00 IN 1960 TRANSLATES TO $300.00 TODAY.
HAVE I MENTIONED HOW HIDEOUS THE WORLD IS.
Tis Hideous. What find for a Saturday morning though.
ReplyDeleteThe Mother just has an estimate done for a new kitchen. $42,000 roughly. I told the contractor to go fuck himself and told her, that money would do much better to keep me happy and get me at least a three-year supply of gin and South Americans for my enjoyment.
I hope your day was a good one my dear. Adore you, and many happy returns!
Hope Mommy has her priorities in order!
DeleteIf Maddie ain't happy, Mommy will pay!
And thank you darling!
Delete$300 for a can opener?!? Christ, you wouldn't want to use it for opening something as tawdry as a can of fruit cocktail or spam, would you.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Norma, dear!
Thanks DV!
DeleteWatching today's mass shooting & wishing I was your neighbor.
I can picture you and Mr. DeVice as neighbours, swapping sponge cake recipes. A living sitcom in the making.
DeleteListen to her, now she's a showrunner!
DeleteHappy Birthday, Norma! An electric can opener - do they still make them?
ReplyDeleteSx
I know! Funny how once upon a time, everyone had one on their counter. Much to people's surprise, I have a hand crank opener, on the wall!
DeleteI have to set cans on the floor to open them because I'm too short to manage them on the counter. Maybe I could use your wall-mounted opener.
DeleteDid we know La Mistressa was a dwarf?
DeleteBetter late than never - Happy Birthday, Norma! The can opener is in the post... Jx
ReplyDeleteHoney, around here no one is ever late, except me.
