NOTE WORTHY

A few weeks ago, the daily newspaper wasn't outside the door in its usual place. After the third day of no paper, a CSI-like investigation found that the papers had indeed been delivered, but left at the other rarely used door. We were then able to surmise that someone new was making the daily drop (we'd have no way to know otherwise). The gentleman that has brought the news to us was pretty old, so we're guessing he just had to give it up. Friday, we received a note in the mail from Ward and here it is. What I want to know is, what about all the folks who have no idea that Ward's stopped calling on them? We only know because of the door snafu. If we didn't and got this in the mail, I don't know what I would've thought. Actually, I still don't quite know what to think.

  1. I think Ward really, really likes your snafu...

  3. I, for one, would be uplifted and feel a sense of sudden peace come upon me....while I tried to figure out where the hell my paper was.

  4. He's channeling Robert Burns!

  5. I am sorry, Norma, I do not get it. Who or what is "Ward"?
I can not decipher this child-like signature and the poem too.

  6. ward is the ex-newspaper delivery man's name.

    WHAT BETTER THING
    WHEN BODIES TOUCH
    SOULS LOOK
    AND NIGHT AND MORNING
    SING
    -
    RELENTLESS AND UNSEEN
    A FALCON ON THE WING

    Ward P. Jewison

  7. Thank you.
Ward sees himself as a falcon on the wing, when night and morning sing.
I think he misses his morning rounds.

  8. It is simple. The missive is written in Olde English & it is a sort of form letter stating that there will now be new carrier & thanks for the business, but would you please take care of any balance.

  10. Are you sure it was the newspaper delivery guy? I wonder how many other people got these notes - I have received two and think they are strange.

  11. katielynn....someone sent you two of these? could it be aliens trying to infiltrate our minds? now i don't if i'll be able to sleep tonight.

  12. Sorry. I didn't mean to stir this back up. I found your blog when searching the name "Ward Jewison." Maybe someone on this forum will have the magic answer for these cryptic notes.

  13. sorry, i thought you were kidding, you really did get one of these?

  14. I used different search engines for "ward jewison", google and those google using had "mitten drinnen" on the first page. And some genealogical thing too. The others less prominent search tools (like f.e. duckduckgo, ixquick, blekko) did not bring "mitten drinnen" up or found a page containing "ward"+"jewison", so it's seemingly an unusual combination. Is "katielynn43" a friend of yours, Norma?

  15. I received this note from Ward in the mail as well. The whole bit about "bodies touching" made me think it was some sort of strange come on. I'm just glad I'm not the only one.

Ward, if you are out there, thanks for your service. You might want to be a little less obscure if you want people to respond :-)

  16. so todd....katielynn...we're neighbors?
did you only find me because you googled ward?

  17. Not sure if we are neighbors but I have to say I am relieved to know I am not the only one receiving these. I like the idea of his being an overly-sentimental newspaper delivery man rather than any of the alternatives that came to mind.

  18. i got one too. and so did my roommate. we got one with the paper (inside the plastic bag) about 5 months ago, and yesterday got a card. with that poem. weird.

  19. we got one too...not sure at all what it means. we don't even get the paper every day...it came in the mail with our other letters. i've never met anyone named ward. this is crazy!

  20. personally, i'm just glad all of us are coming together
to share our ward stories. now maybe we can begin to heal.

  21. I only get the Sunday NYT - is it coming in the same paper for all of us? If so, I could call the NYT delivery people to discuss. I think the original idea is correct that this is just an attempt of an older newspaper delivery guy trying to connect & be sweet and he has no idea how creepy it is.
